The Municipality of North Perth, Perth County OPP, and Trillium Mutual Insurance have teamed up to fight theft in North Perth.
In 2016, Perth County OPP responded to 67 auto theft incidents and recovered stolen vehicles across the municipality. Officers spent over 800 hours investigating these cases. Shockingly, more than 95% of stolen vehicles had the keys left inside. Police also dedicated 563 hours to investigating other thefts in the area.
These organizations believe the best way to reduce auto theft is through community awareness and proactive prevention. When residents take action, thefts become preventable.
You can help reduce these theft in North Perth by:
- locking your vehicle doors, closing windows, and removing keys;
- watching your neighbourhood and reporting any unusual activity to the police;
- reporting all theft and vehicle break-ins, no matter how big or how small; and
- educating those around you on how they can help stop preventable crime.
